Individual Relationship Counselling

A practical and collaborative look at your relationship, aiming to help with difficulties in love. I am unbiased, but supportive, and I bring years of couples therapy experience into the room as we talk. You are always in control of what you do, but you have access to my honest opinion and advice.

Who is it for?

People seeking support with the problems of relationships, especially when couples therapy does not seem like an option. I have helped people understand and solve:

  • long term conflict and tension

  • questions about staying or going

  • sexual issues including performance anxiety, erection difficulties, mismatched desire

  • lack of intimacy and closeness

  • questions about parenting, negotiating roles, finding a place in blended families

  • questions about fidelity and trust

If there has been a confusing change or a pattern in a partner’s behaviour, an issue in dating, or you just want an external perspective, I am happy to help.

What to expect

Relationship counselling is a focused, practical look at your relationship. We work together to understand you and what's happening. I will need to know about your relationship history, an overview of your background, and anything else that might be relevant. I can usually offer an opinion in 1 to 3 sessions and if you feel we are on the right track, we will develop an approach from there. Change often flows naturally. I will also offer suggestions and advice.

Session frequency is up to you. Most people come weekly or fortnightly.

Sessions are approximately 50 minutes.

Individual Psychotherapy

Individual psychotherapy is excellent for working through deep, personal issues, whether they affect your relationships or cause you private pain. It can be slower and more detailed, while leading to broader and long lasting change. Relationship counselling tends to be more practical and relationship focused. Both are a place for personal growth and can change the way we love. Relationship counselling is more immediate, while individual psychotherapy is profound.

Couples Therapy

Often good for similar problems, but you come in together with your partner. Couples therapy is good when both partners want to have a say, or when there is hurt that needs to be recognised. Some people find that working one on one in relationship counselling allows them to be more open and reflective, while working together with their partner is more immediate and a shared experience.
